Princess Womponoke: The First Brainstorm Session
So a bunch of us were sitting in the Retreat this one time when we started talking about Princess Womponoke, Jo's serialized story project for the blog. He started tossing around ideas for an opening sentence, and I started taking down what he said.
Stop laughing. Not with him.
No no no, I don't want to start like that. It's too serious too soon. It should start in the heat of the moment--woah! DORITOS!
(at this point Chelsea comes up to the table with a big bag of doritos. Jo makes sniveling groans and pleas. We remind Jo that he is a vegan.)
Well, I think it should start with some epic poetry. Actually more like a rap. So it's like... (he chews pensively on Doritos) Womp-womp...womp-womp...my heart was beating in its furry chest...I'm glad she has one too.
A debate ensues over whether Jo himself is a womp-womp. We decide that he may or may not be a womp-womp, but either way he has a furry chest. "If you're a womp-womp," asks Liz, "Where's your tail?
It's on the wrong side.
ERUPTIONS OF GIGGLING AND BLUSHING
Give me some cola. I need some refreshment!
Liz interpolates: "Yeah, for some reason drinking breaks tensions. Other things do too, like Twix bars. 'Need a moment? Grab a Twix.' Maybe that's why Stuart eats so many!"
Grace had this to say about our very productive brainstorming session: "That is life. This is your life. You're just sitting there, totally innocent, and you see these babes passing you by, passing in, passing out, they just come in and out of your life. It's true, isn't it?"

A Post in the Meantime
TA37 had our first party last night! In honor of Christie and Sarah's birthdays, we had cookie pie that I baked (which turned out hard and crunchy, though our dear friends were too nice to criticize it) and lots of soymilk and Bailey's Irish Cream in our shot-goblets. It was marvelous. Michelle said that this was the first party she had ever been to that served milk. I am very proud of holding this honor.
Pictures of the party are coming later. Now I'm writing to record some snippets of conversation that have occurred today between myself, Jo and Grace (Stuart's at work all day).
When Grace got back at noon, she greeted Jo in the kitchen with a "What's up, honey bun?"
"Who're you talking to?" said Jo indignantly.
"Yo' mama," Grace replied.
Now, Grace and I are in our respective rooms, and Jo is reading in the living room. Grace was singing the theme song from Khot Poda Namja (Boys Over Flowers). You can here it hear:
"Stop!" Jo cried; "You're torturing me, reminding me that we haven't watched Khot Boda Namja in over twenty-four hours!"
But Grace didn't stop singing.
"You know, Grace," called Jo, "I'm getting the feeling that you enjoy torturing me."
"You're very perceptive, Jo!" Grace called back.

When Grace and I left for class at 10:15 this morning, we left Jo a few chores to do: dishes, garbage, setting up the kimchi fridge...nothing too much!
“Wait,” he called pitifully as we walked out. “When are you coming back?”
“We’ll be back for lunch,” I said. “Want to make us something?”
“Yeah,” said Grace, “Make me a sandwich, honey.”
And she closed the door on Jo’s womp-womp face.

Let there be light!
Whew. It's been a busy few days. Yesterday, Stuart, Grace and I went to Target to buy house things. Jo was off tabling for the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and he still doesn't have a house key to the TA, so we tried to find him, but we gave up after a few halfhearted attempts, figuring he'd find a way to amuse himself until we got back.
Target was an adventure. Stuart was in a mood. We were all in 'moods,' actually. You'd have thought we'd all overdosed on Super B-Complex Vitamins, if you know what I mean.
For when a regular B-complex doesn't suffice.
When we got back that evening, we found Jo and began setting up the new lights we had bought for the rather dark TA living room. Jo, however, took umbrage at our presumption in not consulting with him before making our purchase. Insisting that he was perfectly fine with dark rooms and that $7-lamps from Target were an unnecessary extravagance, he thereby initiated what may be considered our first financial domestic tiff. We managed to put aside our disagreements, however, for the sake of moving the couches, Scott and Paolo, into the house. Getting Paolo up the TA stairs was quite an ordeal! But now our living room looks lovely, with two couches, two lamps, and a TV with the Wii all hooked up.
Last night we celebrated our new living room by watching the second episode of Boys Before Flowers! Jo and Stuart love it. Grace and I hate it. At least it's an opportunity to learn a bit of Korean. And discuss cute boys :)
My favorite is Joseph Gordon-Levitt:
Well, I think he's got a different name, but he looks like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, doesn't he?
Jo and Stuart like Ginger (that's her real name) although they assure us that prettier girls are coming later in he show.
And there's a character named Ji-Hoo, but we think he looks and acts like Tian An:
And finally, there's another boy who seems to say nothing besides "Yo yo yo!" in a Korean accent. He's clearly the Ringo of the series:
Well, anyway, this morning was the Bagel Brunch with the Freshmen, and now we've just had fried rice for lunch courtesy of Michelle, who got it from the International Students' picnic the other day. I think tonight the four of us will have dinner all together for the first time!

Quotes from last night
Well, Jo got here last night, with S., L, and J. It was quite fun times--massages all around and lots of muscle-flexing on Jo's part. After the others left, however, and it was just Sto the Grill and T.A. in the TA, the discussion got a bit heated.
The biggest deal was the argument about whether the boys would be responsible for putting the toilet seat down again or whether the girls should do it as necessary. Needless to say, we were split evenly between the four of us on our opinion concerning that.
Stuart: The toilet seat moves in two directions--you can't say one is right and one is wrong.
Then the conversation moved to cleaning in general. Again, I'll quote my dear friend Stuart: I just think that we shouldn't have to clean. Then Jo began to tell us about the bathroom in his basement at home that he shares with his brothers. He insists he never cleaned it, and that it was still perfectly fine. This lead to an argument about anal cysts that I don't want to think about.
Finally, the discussion turned to food. We've got one vegetarian, one semi-vegan, and one affirmed meat eater in the house. Grace, who self-identifies as a "flexible omnivore" is going to be the easiest one to please, apparently. Jo then drew out a menu of all the food he'll be eating--for the year.

Hello World!
Day one of moving into TA37! Stuart, Grace and I are here now. Jo gets here tonight. Stuart's been here for a few days now. When he arrived there was no toilet paper in the house. Until Grace and I got here today, Stuart was walking to Main every time nature called. Excellent start!
We've spent most of the afternoon setting up the kitchen and arguing about what goes where. I am determined to keep my "tea and candy drawer" in the kitchen island.
Oh, Tian An's here too! T.A. in our TA :)
Now we're having a conversation about the bathroom that I don't feel like recording. It's going to be a great year!
EDIT: Stuart has already mixed up Grace and my names multiple times :) And now we're arguing about communal soap. Should we have it? Should we not? And what brand/type/size/scent should we get?
EDIT: "Everyone's blaming all the stink on me. Wait 'till Jo gets here." -Stuart
